Is it worth inviting green tea to help you when you need to lose a few kilos?
We have already written about the beneficial effects of this drink, but in an age that adores youth and pays tribute to slim curves, it is not often that attention is drawn primarily to those effects that are somehow related to weight management. While green tea's ability to stimulate cognitive function would undoubtedly deserve the same attention, it is often the promotion of body fat burning that motivates people to consume this beverage.
Green tea, moreover, is fighting the weight loss battle on several fronts. Which are they?
SUPPORTING METABOLISM FUNCTIONS
Thanks to its stimulant (caffeine) content and a host of other natural substances, green tea has the ability to speed up the workings of the metabolism. According to some studies, this is due to increased thermogenesis, which in practice means that the body generates heat and consumes calories in the process. Pretty sure it's not a caloric expenditure comparable to a grueling workout, but you know yourself that every calorie burned counts.
HIGHER FAT OXIDATION
It is specifically catechins, as an effective component of green tea, that help the body to oxidize fat, i.e. process it to form usable energy. If this process takes place within a so-called calorie deficit, i.e. the calorie expenditure exceeds the calorie intake, then you burn stored fat and lose weight.
In addition, the aforementioned catechins have the wonderful property of promoting the burning of dangerous visceral fat, i.e. fat stored between the internal organs. This fat is responsible not only for the "tire" waistline, but also for the increased risk of developing a whole host of diseases, be it diabetes or cardiovascular disease.
Reducing your appetite
Once you've managed to speed up your metabolism and set the stage for fat oxidation, it would be a shame if it all came crashing down to uncontrolled appetite. That's why green tea draws one more weapon in the fight for slim curves - it suppresses appetite. This is mainly due to the content of a substance known as EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate).
This induces a feeling of satiety, so you can control your cravings more easily. You can't imagine a better starting point for weight loss.
EFFECTIVE YES, BAD NO WAY
This is how one could briefly sum up the verified properties of green tea. It can really help you with weight loss. But don't expect miracles. If its effects are to be known, you need to create the right conditions for this, which consist of a proper diet and plenty of regular exercise.
In this case, an amount equivalent to two and a half cups of green tea a day will already help you to support the weight loss process.
You should know that the slimming effects of green tea vary depending on the species. Matcha tea contains the most useful substances in this regard. In any case, make sure to follow the right procedure when preparing the tea, especially the temperature of the water is important.
Using water that is too hot will deprive you of many of the active ingredients.
GREEN TEA IN POT AND TABLETS
As already mentioned, weight loss can really be boosted by drinking green tea. Those who would like to strengthen the effect can choose a supplement with an extract or directly a product containing the substance EGCG. In all circumstances, however, the calorie deficit rule must be observed. Then green tea will not only be a healthy but also a "slimming" drink for you.
