Swiss Water Decaf Process
Swiss Water Process originally came from Canada, not Switzerland as the name suggests. However, the technology was first developed in Switzerland. The basic idea of this process is to remove caffeine from the grains without using the chemicals that are commonly used. Instead, Swiss Water depends mainly on the principle of osmosis and the solubility of the coffee beans used.
The process begins with the creation of green coffee extract, or GCE, using fresh water and soluble substances in the beans used. GCE is the key to the whole process.
Prior to decaffeination, green coffee is rehydrated to achieve a targeted moisture that is ideal for decaffeination. This step also removes all dirt, dust and remaining grain containers.
GCE circulates around green coffee (8-10 hours) until 99.9% of the caffeine molecules go into solution. Caffeine is then removed from it via a proprietary carbon filter system. The filter is then sent to a recovery furnace, which burns the accumulated caffeine and the sequin can be reused.
Once 99.9% of the caffeine has been removed from the coffee, it is ready to be dried, bagged and sent to customers.
Technology:
The capsules are made of natural wood fibers combined with lactic acid-based PLA bioplastic. In other words, no aluminum, no fossil plastics, no microplastics. Wood fibers are obtained from residual sawdust after logging from forests with sustainable forestry (PECF certification). PLA, which is 100% organic, allows you to form wood fibers into coffee capsules.
The capsules have received DIN certification in the highest category with the result of the " 100% organic" test from renewable sources.

Compatibility with coffee machines
Our capsules are compatible with the most popular original NESPRESSO machines for private households.
We have successfully tested capsules in all machines sold after 2012. If you have an older machine (eg model series "ESSENZA") or you are not sure of compatibility, contact us at any time at [email protected].
The Miners coffee capsules are not compatible with the following machines:
Nescafé Dolce Gusto
Tchibo Caffissimo
NESPRESSO Vertuo
Tassimo
The Miners Coffee & Characters have no connection to Nestlé and the NESPRESSO brands
Taking out the capsule
We recommend removing the capsule immediately after use. The wood fibers in the coffee capsules expand during brewing. This is one of the reasons why The Miners coffee capsules are so easy to compost. However, this also means that the capsules can get stuck if they are not discarded immediately after use. Once the coffee is ready, open the machine lever so that the capsules fall into the collecting container.
